An homage to my Grandmother
I’ve been thinking about my Grandma lately. ❤️
She was such an amazing grandma. I’m forever grateful I got to have her in my life, how she made me feel so loved and known. When I think of how I want to be as a future grandma someday, I’m going to be thinking of her.
A couple of years ago I made this drawing from one of her photos on her wedding day. I drew her in front of the massive hoya plant she kept in what I affectionately called her “jungle room” — her TV room that was overflowing with plants and life. It’s one of the images that always comes to mind when I think of her. I wish I had an actual picture of that room and all the plants surrounding her!
She gave me a cutting from that hoya before she passed, and somehow it has grown into a huge plant of its own. Right now it has FIVE blooms on it hanging in my bathroom, and every time I see it I think of her. I know she would be so happy to see it still thriving all these years later.
We look alike, and now seeing my girls resemble me in little ways too, it makes me think about lineage, the women who shape us, and the pieces of them that continue on through generations, like little mirrors into the past and future.
While reframing this drawing recently, I decided to scan it in before putting it back together. I uploaded the drawing for any family or friends who would like a copy for themselves. Download it here.
Just wanted to share a little piece of someone who meant so much to us. ❤️
Circa 2010? We were the same age, about 70 years or so a part in these photos.
Hoya Queen!
Here’s another drawing I made of her and my Aunt Carol, back in 2010. I love how this one turned out.
Anybody remember this gem from her garage? Makes me laugh everytime I see it. IYKYK.
