A Custom Cyanotype
a Photograph Transformed
Turn a photograph you love into a one-of-a-kind handmade artwork.
You send me a photograph that holds meaning—a favorite person, beloved pet, special place, family memory, or moment you never want to forget. I transform the image into a cyanotype artwork, combining digital image-making with the beautiful, unpredictable qualities of this historic photographic process.
The result is something more than a photograph: an original handmade artwork created especially for you.
-
Photographs with a clear subject, interesting shapes and details, and a good range of light and dark areas tend to translate beautifully into cyanotype.
Portraits, pets, landscapes, architecture, travel photographs, and meaningful everyday moments can all work wonderfully.
If you're unsure about a particular photograph, upload it anyway. I'll review it before beginning your artwork and let you know if I think another image would produce a stronger result.
-
No.
If you have an older printed photograph, Polaroid, scrapbook photograph, or another physical image that you'd like to use, you can mail it to me.
I'll professionally scan the photograph for use in your artwork and carefully return the original to you with your finished cyanotype.
-
Don't worry. I'll review your image before I begin.
I have experience editing and restoring photographs and can often improve an image significantly before creating the cyanotype negative. If I don't think your photograph can produce a beautiful result, I'll contact you before proceeding.
-
Absolutely—and this is a wonderful option for gifts.
Because the custom negative is created during the first piece, additional cyanotypes made from the same photograph are available at a reduced price.
Additional Small: $45 each
Additional Keepsake: $65 eachIf you'd like multiple pieces in different sizes, or additional Statement pieces, please inquire.
-
Yes, but each different photograph is considered a separate custom artwork because each requires its own image preparation and custom negative.
-
Yes. You can add a personal inscription beneath the image, handwritten by me.
You might choose a date, names, location, or a short meaningful phrase. You'll be able to provide the wording with your order.
-
No—and that's part of the beauty.
Cyanotype is a handmade photographic process. The chemistry is brushed onto each sheet by hand, and variations in exposure, washing, paper, and chemistry create subtle differences in tone and texture.
The hand-brushed edge will also have its own organic character.
Your finished piece will be unique to you.
-
The photograph is the starting point, but the cyanotype is an artistic interpretation of it.
I carefully edit each image to create a strong cyanotype negative, which means the final artwork may have a different balance of light, dark, contrast, and detail than the original photograph.
The goal isn't to reproduce the photograph exactly—it's to transform it into a beautiful cyanotype artwork.

-
Absolutely. In fact, that's one of the reasons I created this offering.
You can have a photograph transformed into a meaningful handmade artwork for someone you love—or order multiple pieces from the same photograph to give to several family members.
If you need the finished artwork for Christmas, please order by December 5, 2026, or earlier if the 10 holiday commissions sell out.
-
After checkout, you'll receive instructions for uploading your photograph and providing any inscription you'd like included.
I'll review your image and contact you if I have any questions before beginning the artwork.
Once your photograph is approved, I'll create your custom negative and begin the cyanotype process.
Your finished artwork will be ready within approximately 2–3 weeks.
